Fast Company has named Salt Lake City-based Recursion Pharmaceuticals as one of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2019. The company’s mission is to use artificial intelligence and experimental biology to make drug discovery and development more effective.
Fast Company also recognized Recursion Pharmaceuticals CEO Chris Gibson as one of the 100 Most Creative People in Business, noting that his company’s proprietary approach, which allows it to generate its own data by running 100,000 mini-experiments each week, “can collect exponentially more data per hour than a traditional lab” and “has compiled one of the largest global databases of cell images, which it uses to improve its algorithms.”
In 2018, the FDA gave Recursion clearance to begin Phase 1 clinical trials for a compound to treat cerebral cavernous malformation, which affects more people than cystic fibrosis.
